Why Trumpsters Exist and What This Says To Dems Moving Forward

Whether or not Trump wins, as we wait for the legal battle that now ensues to play out, we need to analyze why Trumpsters exist at all and what that means to Dems on a deeper level. As just another female voter, I have some reflections on that and an opinion I want to put forward. Again, I am no political pundit. I fancy myself an average generation X moderate liberal Caucasian woman living in the foothills of a red state with a bird’s eye view to Republican opinion near me.

It bears repeating that Trumpsters tend to be uneducated Caucasians and Latinos. Why? Because that is a demographic that has a very conservative agenda in that they do not trust nor want politicians calling the shots in their life. They tend to distrust politicians and Trump has promised to be atypical and leave them alone to make money and do as they please on their land/in their home. This is key to earning their support and undying loyalty. They want to keep the money they earned by working hard and they want to be left alone. It’s not that they (in my opinion) identify with this arrogant, selfish, greedy, narcissist who is so materialistic and toxic he makes your head swim. It’s more about what he promises them. They want this more than they want a good leader: the right to govern themselves and the freedom to make their own choices. They don’t trust any leader so one that promises to step aside is very enticing.

Latinos want less dictator type politicians because a lot of them came from politically corrupt countries where politicians caused horror to fill the streets. Caucasians who identify with being a “redneck American” want to just enjoy their civil liberties and be left alone. Both groups identify with the conservative agenda for this reason.

Democrats need to seek a way to earn back the trust of the Americans that live in rural America by figuring out why they left the Democratic party a long time ago, because these folks come from generation upon generation of good old fashioned Democratic parents and grandparents who voted for the working class party and the little man. Something changed. I think it was trust in the politics of the country and trust in those politicians to lead and make decisions for the betterment of the common man. They lost faith in the government and shun it interfering in their day to day life. No matter what promises Dems make, these voters aren’t buying it and want to just trust their own decisions and to be left alone by Washington.

I no longer believe as I once did that these folks adore Trump, as he would have Democrats believe. They adore less government and that was what he ran on. I truly believe most that voted for him voted based on this ideal.

Trump does have zealots that adore him, make no mistake but I don’t think it’s near as many as I originally thought. So often it seems now days moderates are overlooked and not seen because zealots and extremists overshadow them in both parties. I wish there were many more who represented the middle ground voters like myself who see virtue in both parties. I don’t want guns taken away but I do want laws to protect us from gun violence. However the demographic that is voting for Trump hears “laws…..guns….” and immediately goes on a tangent ignited by conservative extremists that fears any law regarding guns will be a slippery slope toward not being allowed our second amendment rights at all in some future dystopian society where we didn’t fight tooth and nail against any regulations of our rights. This is fear mongering at it’s best.

There are also those that feel the winds of change blowing and feel that they must latch on to the old in order to resist change because change is uncomfortable for many and human beings innately resist change unless making a conscious decision to embrace it head on. This is another part of the total body of Trumpsters. These are the folks who see change as something to stand against less the new take over and older ‘better ways’ fall to the wayside. Toxic masculinity and the patriarchy is falling because though it was needed at one point, it cannot last and is no longer needed for progress in the world. As the patriarchy begins to crumble, there will be last ditch efforts to grab hold of it and not let go without a fight. The world it represents will not go down without a brilliant spectacle of survival fight tactics.

And finally I think there are those that are just simple minded and have cult like mentality and follow anyone as big of a narcissist and manipulator as Trump. But it is very reassuring to me that as we see the country firmly split down the middle in those that voted for Trump vs. Biden, I no longer believe that 100% of the basically 50% of the country that supported Trump falls into this category.
